BRIDGING!!!

We are such a large troop, with multi-levels, so it is easy for us to hold our own activities required for bridging and then a bridging ceremony. In order to encourage 100% participation, we usually do this on the last meeting of the year, followed up by a family get together with cake and snacks.

This is a special event as it is when a girl “flies up” from one level to the next and is accepted by her new troop (in our case, new level). We had 10 Daisies bridge to Brownies, 10 Brownies bridge to Juniors and 1 Junior bridge to Cadettes.

During the ceremony, each girl climbs the bridge to mid-point in their current uniform and is met by a member of the next level with her new uniform. She removes her old uniform and accepts her new one from her troop sister. Upon her new uniform is also her new pin, turned upside down, which shall remain as such until she has done a “good turn” (a good deed) and earned the priviledge of wearing the pin right-side up!

The planning of this event is done by Co-Leader, Wendy, who unfortunately this year after planning the whole event was unable to attend due to a death in her family. So, the rest of us leaders HOPE we did it right 🙂 A SPECIAL thanks to Co-leader, Christy, for taking the reigns on the event organization!

Annual Mother-Daughter Tea

Tea

One of the most special, and highly attended, events we do each year is our Annual Mother-Daughter Tea. This is done on the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend. It is a nice time to spend an afternoon together. Some girls came with their moms, grandmothers and aunts.

The event is the brain child (and 100% labor) of Co-Leader, Leigh, who does a beautiful job! Leigh prepares several types of sweet and savory treats to be served with the plethora of choices for flavors of tea.

This year we were fortunate to have lovely weather and held our tea outdoors in the backyard of one of our leaders’ homes.

Special thanks to Co-Leader, Christy, for getting shots of almost all who attended.

GARDENING Badge and Daisies TAKE ACTION – COMPLETED!

After we were given a plot of garden in which to work, the Juniors and Daisies started to clean out existing plantings (everything that could be salvaged was donated to other gardens!) This took place over a weekend.

Then the planting began! This work was done during troop meeting time. The girls purposely picked plants and flowers that were both annual and perennial so the “project” will be ongoing. There will always be weeds to clean out, flowers to replant and we think the current drip system needs some work. All said and done…The girls did a fantastic job!

Daisies have some CUPCAKE fun!!

Cupcakes

It has become an annual activity to have a fun cupcake decorating day with our Daisy troop. This year it coincided with Volunteer Appreciation Week so not only did each girl make a super yummy cupcake for themselves, some of them made some beautiful cupcakes for the leaders!

Co-Leader, Corrina, discovered a couple of years ago that Wal-Mart bakery will sell ready filled piping bags of icing, in just about every color under the sun, for super duper cheap! So….let’s make some mess…ummm, art, Girls!!!
