2014 Cookies & Cocktails Creations

CCC ©TriannaNichole-Detail 4

Recently the Council in Western Colorado hosted it’s 4th Annual Cookies & Cocktails Creations event. This is an adult-only event of food and wine where local chefs are given a type of Girl Scout cookie and from it make a savory dish. This is the largest fundraising event of the year for GSCO in Western Colorado. The money raised is extremely important to girls as it helps provide scholarships, programing, supplies and much more.

One of our troop leaders was on the event committee this year so, for fun, here are some highlights from this epicurean delight of an event!

The event this year was held at Allen Unique Autos, and it is EXACTLY that…UNIQUE! This local car museum is a great venue because the open space allowed for some great decorating opportunities (such as mannequins in vintage Girl Scout uniforms, as shown above) and the amazing car collection was a super conversation starter! The MC for the night was local News Anchor Cori Coffin from KREX. Additionally, there was a really great silent auction!

The centerpieces were made BY Girl Scouts in Mesa County. Each participating girl received a pot to decorate as she saw fit, with a Girl Scout theme. Then the centerpieces were auctioned off as part of the silent auction. The sky was the limit on the pots and each one was super creative. Below are a sampling of the 22 that were created.

This fun pot was made by Daisy M.W from our troop!

A special call out to troop parent and co-leader Corrina Shirley from RE/MAX 4000, Inc. for her financial donation that allowed these centerpieces to come to fruition!

Of course the main event was the FOOD! Participating local chefs blind-draw a Girl Scout cookie with which to work. They then have free reign on their tasty creation. On the night of the event they serve up their yumminess and guests can vote on their favorite, allowing for some fun competition.

This year’s People’s Choice Award winner is…….Brunella Gualerzi, from Il Bistro Italiano. Assigned Girl Scout Trefoils, her multi-cheese stuffed homemade pasta rolls, with lemon cream sauce with pistachios was a difficult one to beat. Everyone loves food that can easily be considered “comfort food”!

Tiffany at Powderhorn Mountain Resort made a delicious chicken cutlet with Girl Scout Savannah Smiles. It was topped with mango salsa.

If tacos are your thing (and honestly, aren’t they!!!), these Girl Scout Tagalong carnitas tacos, from Craving, were to die for!

CCC ©TriannaNichole-Cowboy Rose 1
Bob from Cowboy and the Rose Catering was assigned Thin Mints and made a recipe that was totally out of the box thinking when he paired espresso beans, caramel and DELICIOUS pecan-wood smoked pork belly into bite-sized tasty morsels!

In a town as small as ours, it is a delight to have events that are cutting edge and fun.

Of course there was also wine on hand! Several local wineries were in attendance pouring for the night.

Thanks also to all the local winery participants and CAVE.

The Sponsor list for this event was amazing and special thanks need to go out to everyone who helped make the event possible, including US Bank. Thank you also to photographer Trianna Nichole, who took most of the above photos (being used by permission of Cindi Graves GSCO Fund Development Manager/Team Lead Western Colorado) and again to Tammy and her team at Allen Unique Autos for allowing the use of her museum for the event!

If you are a foodie, it is highly suggested you try to attend this event in the future. If you went this year, or in the past, speaking as an active troop in Western Colorado, we are VERY grateful for your support!

The cherry on top, was that our troop’s submission of this photo was the winner of the contest for Chef and Sponsor Thank You cards 🙂

COOKIE Media Stars

girls

This morning a few of our troop’s Cookie Media Stars took to the air and were guests on the KREX Morning Show. They spent a couple of minutes talking to Cori Coffin, about the much loved Girl Scout cookies and a little about the starting of Booth Sales in Colorado. Our troop will have booths in several locations over the coming weeks.

This weekend is also National Girl Scout Weekend. Nationwide girls, leaders, volunteers, troops have been encouraged to set up parities/celebrations to get the conversation going about the lifelong skills learned through the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Did you know that selling cookies is the largest GIRL RUN business in the WORLD?!?!

After their few minutes of fame, the girls got to tour the booth and see some of the directors and producers on the job.
